Municipal partnerships

A few years after Independence some Dutch towns got contacts with towns in Namibia. These contacts started often between people who happened to meet in Namibia or through inhabitants from Dutch towns who worked for a number of years in Namibia. Some of these have grown into official partnership relations and a large number of people and organizations in Namibia and in The Netherlands are involved.

The municipal co-operation between three Dutch towns and three partner towns in Namibia are described in the book "Namibia and the Netherlands, 350 years of Relations" The oldest is the partnership between Smallingerland (Drachten) and Gobabis. The second is Nieuwegein and Rundu. The third is Heusden and Otjiwarongo.
